While we know that technology can save a teacher time, help improve a teacher’s effectiveness and even increase student outcomes, we also know that technology can influence the culture in a classroom. Technology has the ability to engage students in a more meaningful way and a way that combines their interests with learning standards. At Classkick, we believe the student perspective is just as important as the teachers. If students love our product, we know they will be more motivated and engaged in the learning process. This, in turn, improves student learning outcomes.

That’s why we visit classrooms, talk to students directly and ask them for feedback on our product. In a Classkick assignment, a teacher asked their students, “What do you like about Classkick and how does it help you learn?” We were lucky enough to hear from the teacher and see the students’ responses. See below for some reasons students love Classkick, too!

You get more detailed feedback

Students love the fact that they get feedback through the app. They don’t have to wait for the teacher to return homework or answer a question whole class, instead, the teacher gives feedback directly on their assignments!

“I will know my answers are correct before I even get to school.”

“The teacher can check what you have done and can help you fix the mistake and where you got it wrong. With a notebook, teachers don’t know you got it wrong or not.”

“The teacher cannot just concentrate on one student from their desk. With Classkick, they can focus on everyone! This gives EVERYONE a chance to fix their mistakes at once!”

Differentiation

Classkick allows students to get their needs met in an individualized and anonymous way.

“I also love that I can do World Math through the computer. I would also feel awkward when I would take out my Orange Book and start working in it, I felt like everyone was staring at me. Now I can just open a new tab and no one will even know that I am on a different assignment!”

“This helps me learn so much because everybody has different weak spots and the teacher can help the student and they don’t have to make a whole lesson about the topic.”

Anonymous Hand Raising

Students love the ability to raise their hand within the app instead of having to ask their teacher for help in front of their peers. They are able to get more specific feedback.

“You can raise your hand in the website. [The teacher] will check if you get it wrong or right and you will get a score to see how you did. If you get it wrong, [the teacher] will say where you made a mistake and you can go back and correct it”

“If Idon’t understand something, I simply raise the yellow hand. [The teacher] can help me if I am at home, school, or even in a different country!”

“When I am done and raise my hand, [and the teacher] can see my work. He can check and grade me without seeing me in person, and he can teach and help me all through Classkick.”

“[Teacher] can help the students without any of us getting up and going over to him (or forcing him to go to the students). This makes doing activities less distracting. For example, when we get divided into pairs, we can work together, raise our green hand, and move on. We don’t have to do one question, raise our hands, wait for him to come over and check, then repeat. We can just work through, and while we work, we can wait for his corrections.”

“I am a shy student and I don’t like to talk too much, using Classkick it helps me learn without talking to much. It helps me learn in a much better way.”

Students can ask their teacher–or each other–for help!

Saves time

Students love the idea that Classkick saves time for teachers AND students. It allows students to continue working on other problems while waiting for feedback and it allows the teacher to be more intentional with who and where to give feedback.

Without Classkick, kids have to wait for the teacher to come around and check the student before he or she goes on, which wastes a lot of time!”

“Classkick also helps the teacher because the teacher does not have to walk around looking for hands up and forget which people need to be checked.”

“It takes away the use of a notebook which can lose pages or rip out.”

Creates a culture of reviewing notes that leads to better study habits.

Students think that Classkick provides them with a better organizational system for taking notes and studying for tests. They are able to use their notes in a more meaningful way.

“Using Classkick has made me a better student because I go over my notes that can help me study instead of going over notes in my notebook and reading my bad handwriting.”

“I can go on the problems that I didn’t finish and see my old work to practice and study off of hard questions”

“I look at work that I’ve done using Classkick for a test”

“All my work will be saved and I will be able to find it easier. I feel is has made me a better math student because it is easier to study for my math tests. Classkick helps me organise my thoughts and make it easy for me to find them.”

“I can organize my notes better.”

“It allows me to take in more information because now I can focus on the teacher rather than taking notes in my notebook. It allows for better studying because most of the time notes in notebooks are very disorganized, but with Classkick, you can go straight to the lesson you want, with the very organized note!”

“I don’t have to copy everything down from the smartboard and it just shows up there.”

It’s fun!

Students love using technology and think Classkick is great!

“I feel it is more hands-on than a regular (and boring) notebook!

“It is super easy and fun! I like getting to math class every day. It is definitely awesome to come into math class thinking, ‘yes! This is my favorite part of the day, Classkick is so unique!” not, “Ugh, I have done this all day. Taking notes is boring!’”

“It is very fun and interactive way of learning.”

Overall, students seem to enjoy Classkick for a variety of reasons beyond it just being a fun and cool app. Students aligned with what we hear most from teachers — Classkick allows teachers to give more personalized and in-the-moment feedback, individualize in a meaningful way for students, and overall improves learning habits and outcomes.
