Here at Classkick, I am lucky enough to spend most of my days with teachers and students. I support teachers in achieving their classroom goals through Classkick. One of the teachers I have the privilege of working with is Ms. K, a 2nd grade teacher at a school in Chicago’s West Side. She has decided to use Classkick to challenge students who complete their small group and centers work early. In a recent check-in, Ms. K shared that her students love using Classkick and often ask her things like, “where is our code to unlock the next assignment?” Despite their enthusiasm, Ms. K found herself not using Classkick as frequently. She confessed it became too hard managing several codes — students lost the paper she wrote it on, they couldn’t remember how they entered their name to complete previous work started, and she simply had too many codes to keep track of.

I understood Ms. K’s dilemma. Though class codes are great for quick access to work, they can be cumbersome in some classrooms using Classkick every day. They make it unlikely that students will go back and review their work and feedback. But when students have their own account, they have access to everything in one place.

That afternoon, we spent about 2 minutes supporting students in creating accounts using a username and password. Ms. K had her students sign up with the same username and password from another app they use. Her students were so excited to have a dashboard of their work where they could see the feedback Ms. K had given them, along with the progress they had made over the course of the assignments.

Are you interested in signing students up? Follow these easy tips:

  • Get students excited — let them know the benefits of student accounts!
  • Provide students with the class code - Find this on any assignment you want students to work on. The code will take them to that particular assignment, and the students will then be enrolled to that roster, giving them access to ALL of the assignments assigned to that roster.
  • Make sure students sign up correctly (3 options): Using Google, Clever, or Username and password. If they already have an account, they can simply enter the code and log in.

Project an image of what students will see when creating an account for the first time (see below).

  • For younger students, we encourage you to create accounts for them in small groups. This will ensure they sign-up correctly and understand how to log in and out.
  • With older students, feel free to project all of the above information on the board for them to independently access.

Create a Student Account

  1. Go to app.classkick.com, or the Classkick iPad app
  2. Enter Class Code
  3. Select “SIGN UP” or “LOG IN” if they already have a Classkick student portfolio account.
